Philip Beswick


Philip has considerable experience in a wide range of commercial litigation and dispute resolution matters including contractual disputes, partnership and shareholder disputes, professional negligence claims, real estate disputes and partnership disputes. Philip has acted on many complex disputes (including arbitrations), often with an international element, and has experience of resolving disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution, including through mediation. He also has experience in obtaining and defending injunctions,
including worldwide freezing orders and search orders.


Philip acts for a broad range of clients, from high net worth individuals and owner managed businesses to major institutions and PLCs.


His clients range from high net worth individuals and owner managed businesses to financial institutions.


Prior to joining Gresham Legal, Philip spent thirteen years at the international law firm Salans, including two years at Dentons following its combination with Salans in 2013.


Philip has also undertaken client secondments at a leading automotive finance company and, more recently, with the litigation and investigations team at a major international financial institution.


Philip qualified as a solicitor in 2005 and is admitted as a Solicitor-Advocate (Higher Courts Civil



Philip’s recent experience includes:































Defending a former director and shareholder of a bank against claims of breach of duty in the Commercial Court. The claim is in excess of $1 billion and involves ancillary proceedings in Cyprus, Russia and Switzerland.


Acting for a major energy producer and supplier in relation to LCIA arbitration proceedings arising out of a breach of contract.


Acting for the licensor and supplier of a digital education platform in a breach of contract claim brought against a leading multinational company in the Commercial Court.


Acting for a construction firm in connection with its claim in the High Court (TCC), involving allegations of procuring breaches of contract and unlawful means conspiracy.


Acting in connection with a multi-million pound Commercial Court claim relating to an oil financing dispute involving claims for breach of contract, estoppel and rectification.


Acting for a Defendant in a €35 million fraud claim arising out of an oil trading venture, including freezing and search orders.


Acting for a former partner of a capital placement business in a complex and high value partnership dispute involving alleged breaches of contract / fiduciary duties.


Acting for an airline carrier in relation to multiple proceedings concerning alleged breaches of aircraft lease agreements.


Engaged to provide strategic advice to a key government agency concerning various contractual issues under a major outsourcing contract.


Defending a superyacht broker in a claim involving defeating an injunction application and securing a favourable out-of-court settlement following mediation.


Acting for a leading supplier of medical imaging diagnostics equipment concerning a range of contractual issues, including in connection with a protracted dispute with a manufacturer under a distribution agreement.


Advising a leading European hotel operator on a high-value dispute with an investment fund concerning alleged contractual payments and complex assignment issues.


Managing and providing strategic advice relating to portfolios of professional negligence claims on behalf of banks.


Acting for a mortgage lender in a High Court action in connection with a  professional negligence claim brought against a firm of surveyors.


Acting for a defendant to a claim by the Czech Republic in which it applied to set aside an arbitration award under section 67(1) of the Arbitration Act 1996.
