David practises complex and high value commercial litigation and arbitration. Many of the matters that David has worked on have an international element.

David is a specialist commercial disputes lawyer, with representative experience in proceedings before the English High Court and Court of Appeal. He has also acted on a number of international commercial arbitrations under a variety of different rules.

He has specific expertise in commercial fraud, shareholder, and financial services litigation. Additionally, he has acted on sports, regulatory and contentious trust matters.

David undertook his training contract at a leading international firm and practiced there for over four years. He then practiced at a magic circle firm for four years before joining Gresham in November 2025.

David’s representative experience includes:

  • Acting for the owner of a Middle-Eastern power plant in a number of arbitrations including against (i) the national power company of a Middle-Eastern nation; (ii) a ministry of a Middle-Eastern nation; (iii) the EPC contractor of the power plant; and (iv) a PRC financial institution.

  • Acting for a professional sports league (and regulator) against one of the league’s member clubs who challenged the league’s rules.

  • Railways Pension Trustee Company Limited v ATOS IT Services UK Limited & Anor [2024] EWCA Civ 98 – Acting for the trustee of the Railways Pension Scheme. The case concerned interpretation of the Scheme’s rules and regulations under the Railways Act 1993. The Court of Appeal unanimously upheld the reasoning of the High Court (in the favour of the Trustee).

  • Advising a multinational telecommunications company in relation to a multi-billion dollar trusts litigation in the Kenyan High Court concerning a widely used mobile money service and Kenya’s largest fintech platform.

  • Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation Limited v (1) Dechert LLP and (2) David Neil Gerrard and Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation Ltd v Director of the Serious Fraud Office [2022] EWHC 1138 (Comm) – Acting for ENRC in its high-profile successful claims against Dechert and Mr Gerrard, and the SFO for professional negligence and breach of contract, and misfeasance in public office respectively.

  • PEL (UK) Ltd v Shaftesbury Plc [2018] EWHC 1661 – Acting for Shaftesbury PLC, in a claim brought against it by its majority shareholder in relation to a placing of shares.

  • Acting for a multilateral development bank in relation to recovery of outstanding amounts by an airline under a facility agreement.
